Throw a Fireball Part 1 - The Idea

My original concept was driven by a need to demonstrate my abilities with Instruction Design along with my passion for video games. One of the greatest setbacks with Instruction Design is that most companies want their work to remain confidential.

To say that I was curious about the limitation of Articulate Storyline in an understatement. I had been able to recreate Jira using a presentation tool, so could I recreate a small snippet of a video game in it ? Furthermore, what would I want to teach others?

The idea finally hit me! Actually, my wife suggested something from a fighting game, and as usual, she was right. I would show people how to throw a fireball, known as a "hadouken" in the fighting game world, essentially to capture the excitement all of us felt when throwing one for the first time. The idea then grew from there; I would have an arcade cabinet as the backdrop, and try to help transport the learner to a 1990s arcade!

The first of many problems arose and were conquered from there...
